The Adventures of Molly Murphy

This blog chronicles my move from the idyllic west to a base in Texas, and eventually, to central Germany where I am living and soaking up all of the techno I can handle.

Oh, Iowa...

Bad news travels fast...even overseas! Awoke this morning to an AP radio report that a tornado had hit my beloved Iowa City in the night...not many details on the radio, but the Press-Citizen has a more detailed assessment of the damage. In my old neighborhood, one of the walls of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority house collapsed, the Homeland Security Department has declared the city a disaster area and classes have been cancelled. While the Press-Citizen hasn't yet confirmed that it was actually a tornado that swept through town, whatevever the storm was was powerful enough to demolish the 54-year old Riverside Dairy Queen and lift half of the roof from St. Patrick's Church (picture above, courtesy of the Press-Citizen and the Des Moines Register.) So, unfortunately, on this Good Friday, there's no difficulty differentiating Iowa from heaven.
